Preparation of Hydrogen Sulphide:

1. When Iron (II)Sulphide is reacted with dilute Hydrochloric acid, Hydrogen sulphide gas is formed:

FeS + HCl → FeCl2+ H2S

Time Taken:00:00

2. When Iron (II)Sulphide is reacted with dilute Sulphuric acid, Hydrogen sulphide gas is formed:

FeS + H2SO4 FeSO4+ H2S

Time Taken:00:00

Reactions of Hydrogen Sulphide:

1. Hydrogen sulphide gas burns in limited amount of air to form Sulphur and water:

H2S + O2 S + H2O

Time Taken:00:00

2. In excess air Hydrogen sulphide gas burns with a blue flame to form Sulphur dioxide and water:

H2S + O2 SO2 + H2O

Time Taken:00:00

3. Hydrogen sulphide gas reacts with Chlorine gas to form Sulphur and Hydrogen chloride gas:

H2S + Cl2 S + HCl

Time Taken:00:00

4.Hydrogen sulphide gas reacts with Lead (II) nitrate solution to form black precipitate of Lead (II) sulphide:

H2S + Pb(NO3)2 PbS + HNO3

Time Taken:00:00

5.Hydrogen sulphide gas reacts with Copper (II) sulphate solution to form brownish black precipitate of Copper(II) sulphide:

H2S + CuSO4 PbS + H2SO4

Time Taken:00:00

6.Hydrogen sulphide gas reacts with Zinc sulphate solution to form white precipitate of Zinc sulphide:

H2S + ZnSO4 ZnS + H2SO4

Time Taken:00:00

7.Hydrogen sulphide gas reduces Sulphur dioxide gas into Sulphur:

H2S + SO2 S + H2O

Time Taken:00:00

8.Hydrogen sulphide gas reduces Iron(III)chloride to Iron(II)chloride:

FeCl3 + H2S → FeCl2 + HCl + S

Time Taken:00:00

9.Hydrogen sulphide gas reduces Nitric acid to reddish brown Nitrogen dioxide gas:

HNO3 + H2S → H2O + NO2 + S

Time Taken:00:00
